Knotwood is committed to making a product that's cleaner, safer and better for the Environment
In recent years, using sustainable and eco-friendly materials has gained much popularity. Globally, many companies have been motivated to use eco-friendly and sustainable materials. Choosing to use materials that are recyclable and reusable helps to control pollution and energy consumption. We can recycle almost all materials, and it is just that some materials are easier to recycle when compared to certain other materials. Metal is one of the most highly recyclable materials in the world. Aluminium, among many metals, has a high recycling rate and is favoured by many producers to manufacture sustainable products which will be long-lasting and will not harm the environment.
KNOTWOOD, like many other companies, believe in the cause of sustainability. They are committed to designing products with recyclable materials, cleaner and safer for the environment. KNOTWOOD aluminium products are one hundred per cent reusable as they are with aluminium. KNOTWOOD uses a powder coating finish on their products from volatile organic compounds or VOCs, reducing the ecological footprint.
Aluminium
Aluminium has the highest recycling rate among all other metals, which makes it an eco-friendly material that one can use for manufacturing. KNOTWOOD believes in " greener is better" and in the cause of using sustainable materials. Therefore, they are committed to using cleaner, recyclable materials and safer for the environment. The products manufactured by KNOTWOOD are one hundred per cent reusable as they with aluminium. The aluminium extrusion of
KNOTWOOD can readily undergo recycling at the end of its service life.
The recycling process of aluminium consumes only five per cent of the initial energy required to create the aluminium extrusion. Recycled aluminium can be in the category under two broad categories: new scrap and old scrap. Generally, recycled aluminium that falls in the fresh scrape results from industrial manufacturing processes such as extrusion. This new scrape category of aluminium is free from contamination and is of good quality; therefore, this category of scrap is reprocessed and remelted without any further treatment. The new scrap aluminium has a high value, as a result of which it is one hundred per cent recyclable.
The second category is old scrap. Recycled aluminium that falls in the old scrape category results from recycling items like juice cans and building and transport items made of aluminium. These items are collected and recycled by an efficient group of scrap metal merchants. They not only manage these items but also carefully sort and separate the aluminium items from other metal items like iron and steel. There are chances of contamination in old scrap; therefore, they undergo further treatments. Generally, secondary refiners are in use for remelting this scrap. The secondary refiners melt the old scrap into silicone-based alloys, typical for aluminium casting.
As we know, recycling aluminium consumed only five per cent of the initial amount of energy that was necessary to create it initially. Recycling a tonne of aluminium will save five tonnes of bauxite and fifteen thousand kilowatt hours of electricity. It makes aluminium an excellent material for manufacturing items. In addition to its outstanding recycling rate, aluminium also provides various benefits, which makes it a better material.
Aluminium, unlike wood, is lightweight as it has low density, making KNOTWOOD portable and assisting for easy installation. Aluminium is impervious to pests like termites and ants, so there is no need to spend money on additional chemical treatments. Its anodising property makes it resistant to corrosion and damp weather. These characteristics of aluminium make it a sustainable material and make the products long-lasting and sturdy.
Powder coating
KNOTWOOD provides you with a wide variety of items to choose from. KNOTWOOD's futuristic aluminium modular system has a unique design that helps conceal screws, joints, fasteners and rivets. They try to make a simple design yet will provide all the needed facilities. To make the products, long-lasting KNOTWOOD uses a particular powder coating system. As we know that KNOTWOOD believes in using clean materials that will not harm the environment, the powder coating finishes used by them are free from volatile organic compounds or VOCs and lead. It reduces the ecological footprint.
This powder coating used by KNOTWOOD is proven to be more environmentally friendly than other alternative coating products. Since the powder coating is free from volatile organic compounds and lead, it is recyclable during application. The powder coating is a product of sustainable manufacturing processes. The method of powder coating the extruded aluminium profiles allows KNOTWOOD to offer a wide range of colours. The powder coating the aluminium profiles is electrically charged and baked in an oven.
Extrusion of the biller material precedes the process of powder coating. After that, the process of powder coating involves the usage of electrical guns. These electrical guns prepare 80-120 microns of powder paint on the extruded aluminium profiles. Then is the polymerisation process, which requires the extruded profiles to heat at two hundred and twenty degrees Celsius for half an hour. The end of the polymerisation process indicates that the application of the base layer is complete. This base layer gives a smooth and glamorous finish to the products and acts as a protective layer. This protective base layer protects the extruded aluminium profiles from external damage caused by corrosion, harsh weather conditions, abrasion and ultraviolet light.
KNOTWOOD is known for its realistic wood finish. The aluminium profiles, which have the coating with the base layer, undergo a second round of coating, bringing the natural wood effect. It requires the coated aluminium profiles to be in any of KNOTWOOD's film inside a conveyor system. The conveyor system vacuums the air in the film around the aluminium. After this, the aluminium is transported into the oven by the conveyor system. Under high heat and pressure, the film gets imprinted onto the aluminium. These all are sustainable manufacturing processes which involve minimal energy consumption.
